"In Violet Light"
As part of ARCHERFEST 2025, Camryn Dewar (mezzo soprano) and I are honoured to present a celebration concert of esteemed Canadian composer, Violet Archer (1913-2000). Archer’s musical palette is deeply evocative and In Violet Light brings to life her extraordinary compositional artistry, with repertoire ranging from her earliest works in the 1940s to later works of the 1970s. Violet Archer took a fresh approach to traditional concepts of tonality, phrasing, counterpoint, structure and texture that shaped and solidified her mastery. Through this colourful program, the full scope of musical imagination sweeps through solo piano pieces elegantly complemented with songs for mezzo soprano.
